Tone for the Surprises!
I photograph the panoramic images with a rotating lens camera (medium format Noblex or Widelux and 35mm Widelux) using mostly TMax 100 or 400 film. For the more traditionally shaped prints I use a 4x5 field camera (Calumet Woodfield) and TriX film. I print the images on various fiber based papers, processing to archival standards. Occasionally, I solarize the prints (ie. I add light during development).
And then the magic begins...
I tone the prints, one by one, usually with copper toner, sometimes with blue or yellow or selenium in addition or instead. Sometimes I remove toner from part of the image. Toning is a very inexact process, only partially controllable. Each result is different, unique, and non-replicable. Most are garbage; a few are keepers. Here I display a sample of the treasures.
